I just got back from a wonderful trip to visit friends at Murrell's Inlet in South Carolina. We had the chance to visit Brookgreen Gardens and the Night of a Thousand Candles while we were there. It was unbelievable! We couldn't go until the last night, and of course it rained almost all day before the event. We were afraid that it would be cancelled, but luckily, it quit and we were able to go. I would highly recommend it as a Christmas must for next year.
When we got there, the volunteers were just beginning to light the candles. We got to tour some of the gardens before it was completely dark.
They had a toy train exhibit set up with trains outside as well. My favorite part of the indoor displays was the Santa paintings by Oregon artist Tom Browning. They were some of the best I have ever seen. The artist really captured the twinkle in Santa's eye and the elves were adorable.
The children's garden was lit with red and white lights like peppermints. All the live oaks were filled with lights.
They had an 80 foot Christmas tree that we got to watch them light.
We got to look around at all the lit up sculptures and I fell in love with this plaque about the pelican!
After the show, we enjoyed a great dinner in Pawley's Island at Frank's Outback. It was several fancy heated tents with a fire pit and live music.
The holidays are always a great time to spend with family and friends. I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and I look forward to seeing you in 2015!
