This is the perfect time of the year to get the family together for a family portrait! The weather is cooler, the leaves are falling and the holidays are right around the corner. Family portraits make great Christmas gifts and cards. We still have perfect weather in Eastern North Carolina this time of year to get great outside shots! Whether you have a family reunion to capture or a child that is going to graduate this spring, this is the perfect time to capture those moments. Parents love to get portraits as gifts from their grown children too! Of course new additions to the family need to be captured as well.
It is important in a family session that everyone color coordinate their clothing. Whether you are interested in the darker jewel tones (burgundy, hunter green, navy blue, gold) or the traditional neutral colors ( kaki, white, light blues), everyone should wear something in the same color tone. Complementary colors make a large group blend together and create a feeling of family unity. No one person should "jump" out of the portrait because of the color or style of clothing. You don't have to always where kaki and white or jeans and white shirts. Use some bold colors as well as the classic colors to create a unique look. Be sure to wear clothing that is simple and classic, not just the lastest fad. It is a good idea to wear three-quarter or long sleeves. This allows the viewer's eye to go to the faces in the portrait. It's the faces, not the clothing, that should dominate a portrait.
