It's your last year of high school and you are preparing to have your senior portraits taken. You don't know what you should wear or how many outfits to take. What about hair and makeup? Do you need to take any props? You have a million questions and you want your senior portraits to look amazing. I am here to answer all those questions so that your senior session is the best it can be and you have fun while you are doing it!
First of all, at Martha Peoples Photography, you can choose between 3 to 6 outfits depending on which session you signed up for. Think about having one of your outfits repeat your eye color. Navy and gray are popular clothing colors, but tend to photograph a bit dull. Look for stronger, richer colors. Choose 1 or 2 outfits with long sleeves. Long sleeves are more flattering and don't date the picture as being taken in the summer. Darker clothing, especially pants, makes you look slimmer. AVOID HORIZONAL STRIPES! Shoes with heels will lift and slim. Don't wear light clothing on parts of your body that your want to conceal! If your clothing is too tight, it will emphasize bulges and wrinkles. ALWAYS HAVE A DRESS REHEARSAL! The night before your session, put on your entire outfit including jewelry and accessories. This way you won't forget to pack anything!
You should choose an outfit that is classic and won't go out of style. This will be something your mother will want to display as a wall portrait. Bring an outfit that makes a statement about you. It can be a sport, activity or just a really high-fashion outfit. For your outdoor outfit denim is always a great choice. You can change the look of your senior portraits by wearing rusts or browns for a fall look or flower inspired colors for a more spring or summer look. BRING A VARIETY!
Accessories and jewelry complete an outfit. Bring hats, scarves, belts, jackets and a variety of bracelets and necklaces so we can mix and match. Be sure to wear and bring your makeup. You always need more makeup in photographs than what you would normally wear. Use SPF-free moisturizer and foundation to prevent reflection and to enhance skin's natural glow. Use a translucent powder to set. Well groomed eyebrows are a must. Enhance eyelashes with BLACK waterproof mascara. Dark brown eyeliner is a natural alternative to heavy black eyeliner and compliments all light shimmery eye shadows. Don't be afraid to have a little color on the apple of the cheekbones (petal pink). It will really brighten up the appearance of the face. You need glossy, shiny, color on your lips! It is best to use reds, berries and brown, not frosty pink. Hair can be worn curly or straight, just remember that if you make many changes to your hairstyle, you will lose valuable time in the studio. Bring a straightener or curling iron for touch-ups. You may need a hair tie or bobby pins. We have some items here for your convenience.
Guys, make sure have a fresh shave. Get your hair cut at least a week prior to your session. Don't worry about blemishes, we'll take care of that! Try not to get sunburn before your appointment.
