Ok, I admit it. I'm a prop-a-holic! I love buying and making props! I have props for babies, children, adults, even pets! I have so many props that we have devoted a whole garage and attic to them. Everywhere I go, I am constantly on the lookout for something to use in my portraits. Whether we are on vacation or just going to the grocery store, I always look at items with the thought in mind as to whether or not it would make a good prop for something I am working on.
I love to sit and flip through Pinterest and look at how to make things. I have always loved crafts and making props is just an excuse for me to play arts and crafts! Of course, I usually have to get my family involved as well. There is always something to build that takes more handy man talent than I have. My husband has to step in to help. He is even making his own line of picture frames! He made these frames for our Storybook Collection "Little Picasso". The children put their own handprints on their frames!
Lately, I have been working on props for my newborn photography. We took an old "Little Tykes" airplane that was my children's and painted in green for my pilot newborns. We also took a basket I had added wooden dowls, sand bags and a 3 foot balloon to make a hot air balloon for newborns.
I made a canopy to use with newborn girls. I also made a big canopy to use with older girls when we have our May Storybook, Teddy and Me tea party.
I am always raiding my own attic for old toys to use too!
In October, I will have my famous "Fairytales" storybook. This year I will take them outside and I wanted to have some new wings. I looked up how to make them and now I have several sets of wings for my little fairies!
So if you see me out shopping and in deep thought, just know that I am probably thinking of a way I can use something in one of my portraits!
