Despite all the cold weather we have had lately, Easter is coming! And with Easter we have the bunnies! This will make the 18th year I have taken Easter portraits with live bunnies! It's hard to believe that it's been that long. It seems like just yesterday that my children were begging to keep the first bunny that I used. Of course I gave in and so we had a new member of the family.
We eventually gave that bunny to a school to be a class pet. I decided not to name them after that so that we would not get attached to it. That did not help. I decided to let my clients register to win the bunny and that worked for a while. A couple of years later, my daughter begged again to keep the bunny with promises of taking care of it herself. Of course I gave in, so we were back in the bunny business! Since I had not wanted to name it, he was just called "bunny".
When Easter rolled around the next year, he would not behave and sit nicely for portraits, so I had to buy another one. This bunny's registered winner changed their mind about wanting a bunny and so I was stuck with another bunny! Well you know what happens when you have two bunnies! I had to take them to the vet and have them fixed. He was called "little bunny" because I had not named him either!
After that, I was lucky enough to find a wonderful lady that raises bunnies for sell that lets me "borrow" bunnies! I was VERY thankful since neither of MY bunnies would sit still for portraits anymore! Now we always get to play with the baby bunnies at Easter and then give them back! That's the best of both worlds! "Little bunny" and "Big bunny" both lived to be quite old (for bunny years). They died within a year of each other.
Easter quick takes are a great opportunity for new clients to give me a try without having to invest a lot of time or money. It's a great way to document your child's growth and have great seasonal portraits. I only offer quick takes three times a year (Valentines, Easter and Halloween). It's a fun way to let your child play with a pet without having to purchase one!
The bunnies come and go and the scenes change, but Easter portraits are still some of my very favorite ones.
